What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a system of clear, custom –fitted tooth aligners designed as a substitute for metal braces. Using 3-D computer rendering, Invisalign can model your entire treatment plan, from start to finish. Then a series of aligners are made for your teeth. Each aligner is worn for a specific amount of time, usually about 2 weeks, until the final desired position of your teeth is reached. Each course of treatment will be different and will require a different amount of time, but generally cases run from eight months to a year and a half.

What Are The Benefits of Invisalign®?

Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners are clear and virtually unnoticeable when being worn. When people hear the word orthodontics they think of conventional braces or “railway” tracks. However, with Invisalign, we eliminate this type of appearance which allows the patient to engage in many social activities and most people will not even recognize that they’re wearing an appliance.

Invisalign is removable. Patients have the flexibility to eat and drink without worrying about their orthodontics. The removable nature of Invisalign also allows for proper brushing and flossing without the need for floss threading.

The Invisalign system uses no metal brackets or wires than could cause cuts or irritation to a patient’s mouth. You will also spend less time in the orthodontic office because Invisalign requires no adjustments.

Braces are more than the means to a stunning smile–they can improve dental health, phonetics, appearance, potential sociability, occlusion (bite) problems, and function. Misaligned teeth are difficult to brush and floss, and substandard cleaning can cause tooth decay and other dental problems. Issues with your bit may also develop when the upper and lower jaw do not come together accurately and these uncorrected bite issues cause teeth to wear, putting stress on your jawbone, and ultimately leading to pain.

How will Invisalign Effectively Move my Teeth?

Invisalign aligners move teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force on your teeth. The main difference is that Invisalign not only controls forces, but also the timing of the force application. During each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move. These movements are determined by your doctor as he or she maps out your unique Invisalign treatment plan.

What Are The Aligners Made Of, Are They Safe, And What Do They Look Like?

The virtually invisible aligners, which are made of a thermoplastic material uniquely developed for the Invisalign treatment plan, look similar to tooth-whitening trays. Invisalign aligners do not contain Bisphenol-A or phthalate plasticizers. These aligners and retainers are made with USP Class VI medical grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resins. Tests have been conducted to determine the biocompatibility of these materials, and show that they are biocompatible and pass all applicable regulatory requirements and thresholds for human wear in the mouth.

What is the Technology Used to Create the Aligners?

Using advanced computer technology, Align Technology produces Invisalign, a series of customized clear appliances, or aligners. Each aligner is worn sequentially by the patient to produce extensive tooth movements in both upper and lower arches.
